Respect ~ Responsibility ~ Resilience

Eastside Connections School (ECS) offers an opportunity for students to participate in a project based learning environment from kindergarten through eighth grade.  We take pride in offering a myriad of musical opportunities and integrated specials, along with numerous after school activities such as our STEM Academy.  Student academic assessment is done using a variety of sources that include DIBELS, NWEA, M-STEP, and curriculum assessment tests.

Project Based Learning
ECS provides a unique learning experience focused on Problem/Project Based Learning. Students in all grades integrate content areas into all aspects of learning. Final projects are presented to an audience encompassing the 21st Century Skills of information literacy, technological literacy, scientific literacy, cultural literacy, inventive thinking, interactive communication, and the expectation of quality results.  Eastside Connections School facilitators are Problem and Project Based Learning Certified.

Uniforms
ECS students are required to wear uniforms consisting of navy blue, golden yellow, or white polo shirts with khaki, black or navy blue pants, skirts or jumpers.

Transportation
Eastside Connections School does not offer transportation for its students. Parents are required to drop off and pick up each day.

Attendance
We know that attendance is vital to our learners' academic success and require that students maintain a 90% on time and 90% attendance status to retain their ECS placement.

Volunteerism
As we believe the partnership we have with our families and our community contributes to the foundation of our learners' success, school and/or community volunteerism is required for families wishing to enroll their children at Eastside Connections School.

  • District Lays Out Strategic Plan

After months of gathering information from community stakeholders through surveys, workshops, forums and other means, leaders of the Niles Community Schools district have developed a new strategic plan that will help guide the district in reaching future goals. On February 1, 2016, the Niles school board ratified the plan by approving the district’s new mission statement, vision statement, beliefs and goal statements — all of which are components of the strategic plan. “To use a Viking analogy, we wanted everybody to have their oars in the water at the same time and all pulling together,” said Greg O’Toole, school board president. “I think this was critical to getting to that point.”
