General School Procedures
School Closings and Delays - In the event it is necessary to cancel classes, a bulletin will be issued via our Power Announcement Emergency Notification System.Notification on school closings is also sent to the following media sources: (WSBT, WNDU, WSJV, WFRN-FM, WCSY-AM & FM, WSJM-AM & FM, WIRX-FM, WCXT-FM) for the status of school closings.  If you would like to add additional phone numbers, e-mail or text messaging to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please refer to the paperwork you recently received.

Student Arrival and Departure - Students who are transported to and from school should NOT arrive before 8:30 a.m. at Howard and 8:25 a.m. at Ellis.  Students must be picked up at dismissal time as we are unable to provide adequate supervision both before and after school.

Cold Weather Reminder -
Just a reminder to make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  The students will go outside for a short period of time if the temperature is about 10 degrees.  Please make sure they have boots, mittens and hats.  Students at Ellis School also need to wear snow pants.  Please don't forget to label your child's belongings.

Illness -
For your child's well-being and to prevent the spread of communicable disease, please do not send your child to school if he/she has one of more of the following symptoms:
  1. Fever within the past 24 hours
  2. Vomiting
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Heavy nasal discharge
  5. Reddened eyes
  6. Persistent cough
  7. Unidentified Rash
Safety on the Bus Lots - Please do not drop your child off in either of the bus lots. Please use the designated drop off areas and do not allow your child to enter or exit the school through the bus lot.  Pedestrian traffic between buses causes an unsafe situation.  We want all children to arrive and depart from school safely.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  If you need to pick you child up early from school, please be sure to sign him/her out in the office before leaving the building.

Absences
- All absences should be reported by telephone to the school.  If an absence is not reported by telephone, the parent should send a note to the teacher when the child returns, explaining the reason for the child's absence.

Homework in the Event of Absence - In the event that your child will be absent for three or more days, homework assignments can be provided upon request.  Please give the teacher 24 hours advance notice so that he/she has adequate time to prepare homework and materials.  Unfortunately, same day requests cannot be honored.  Thank you for your understanding.

Attendance - Regular attendance is essential to school success.  Notification of absences is as follows:
1.  After 5 days of absence-Teacher phones home.
2.  After 10 days of absence-Principal sends a letter.
3.  After 15 of absence-Principal requests a conference.
4.  After 20 days of absence-Principle sets up a conference or home visit.

                                     District.
