February 3, 2017

You should have received your child's report card, and a note regarding spring conferences in his/her Friday Folder this week. If you have any questions regarding the report card please feel free to contact your child's teacher.

Conferences are scheduled on Wednesday, March 1 (evening only-students have a full day of school), and Thursday, March 2 (afternoon and evening). Students have a half day of school on Thursday and Friday that week. Dismissal on half days is at 11:58 am.

No School in February

There is a half day of school for students on Friday, February 10th. School dismisses at 11:58 am. On Monday, February 20th there is NO SCHOOL for students. Teachers have professional development on both those days. Remember that the YMCA offers an extended day program to parents who need day care when there is a half day of school. Contact the YMCA at 269-683-1552 for more information. There are registration forms in the office at Ballard.

A Reminder to Fifth Grade Parents About Grade 5 Human Growth Health Education

HealthWorks Kids' Museum will be presenting the reproductive health education classes to our fifth grade students on Wednesday, March 1 from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. A note was sent home in last week's Friday folders with a permission slip that must be signed in order for the child to attend. If you need another form, please let your child's teacher know.

Spring Pictures

Lifetouch will be here on Thursday, March 2, in the morning to take spring pictures. This is a half day of school for students, but there will be plenty of time for pictures to be taken. The photographer will begin at the start of school around 9:00 am. An order form will be sent home soon. Only students that pay ahead will have their picture taken.

PE Class Update from Mr. Payne

Students will be graded three ways for marking period three and four. Each student will receive three points each week. 1 point for participation, 1 point for wearing tennis shoes, and 1 point for having acceptable behavior (following all the Ballard B's and the classroom norms). This means in order to receive an ES or an A, students may only miss two points for the marking period. If a child is absent from class, then this week's grade will be marked exempt and will not count in their final grade. It is really important that each student comes prepared and ready to learn. Thank You, Mr. Payne

PTO News

Thank you to everyone that came out to Family Fun Night on January 31st. We had a terrific turn out! Families have a fun time, and love to win the prizes.

With Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up in March, PTO will help put together a luncheon for the teachers and staff on Wednesday, March 1st. If you would like to help by bringing a dish, helping serve, set-up, or clean-up, please let Donna Laboda, or someone from PTO know.

The box top winner for January is Mrs. Lyle's classroom with 187 turned in, second place is Mrs. Lee's class with 185, and in third place is Mrs. Ripley's class with 97! The more you clip box tops, the more money the PTO can give back to Ballard. Each box top clipped is $.10. Please keep on sending in those box tops. Don’t hang on to them for a long time because they do expire. Ask family, friends, and neighbors to clip them and give them to your student to turn in. Plus, the classes have a friendly competition to see which class brings in the most box tops. The winning class for February will earn an ice cream party. We collect box tops the third Thursday of the month. The next box top collection is February 16th.

We are going to try out a new fundraiser starting in March. Look for details coming home soon. Our next PTO meeting will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 4:00 pm in the library.

Below are important dates for the month for you to remember.
