Parent-Teacher Conferences

Teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents during conferences on Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17. There are half days of school for students on these two days. On Friday, November 18, there is NO SCHOOL for students. Conferences provide a great opportunity for teachers and parents to communicate about a child's academic strengths as well as areas for growth during the rest of the school year. During conferences teachers will provide parents with their child's report card and most recent NWEA scores. (NWEA stands for the Northwest Evaluation Association computerized adaptive assessments that students take in the areas of reading and math twice a year.) If you did not receive a note to sign up for conferences please contact your child's teacher. Confirmation notes for conferences will be sent home in next week's Friday folder (Nov. 4).

ATTENDANCE

This year regular attendance is a goal here at Ballard and throughout the district. We have set an ambitious goal of an average daily attendance rate of 98% by the end of the 2016-17 school year. Ballard's average daily attendance rate (year to date) is 96.3%, which means we are averaging 22 students absent per day. A shout out to the fourth grade, they have an average daily attendance rate of 96.88%. Please make sure your student is at school each and every day.

Miss Newhouse's class won our attendance incentive for the months of September and October. For the months of November and December our incentive is “the fish bowl”. Each week a class has everyone in attendance the class may place a fish in the fish bowl on the bulletin board across from the office. Each student in the class with the most fish in the bowl on January 12, 2017 will receive a prize from our Pathways to Potential (P2P)Success Coach. Remember every student with perfect attendance from the start of the school year through December 16th has a chance to win a bike through another P2P attendance incentive.

PTO News

Mark your calendars to join us for this year's first Family Fun Night on Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 pm for Bingo. This is a lot of fun! Students love playing and trying to win the fun prizes.

Great Lakes Fundraiser product was delivered Tuesday, October 25th. All money is due by Friday, November 4. Prizes are distributed all at once after the Limo Ride is over.

We had a very close competition this month with our Box Top Collection. Mrs Lyle's classroom brought in 241, Ms. Westgate's room collected 236, and Mrs. Dwyer's class had 227. The next Box Top Collection is November 17th.

We hope to see you at next week's PTO meeting on Thursday, November 3, at 4:00 in the library.

Music Class Update

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The 4th & 5th grade classes will present their Holiday Winter Music Performance on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13 at 7pm in the Ballard Gymnasium. More detailed information will be sent home in December. Grades 1-3 will be scheduled in the spring. In preparation for the 4th and 5th grade performance, Mr. Gruver is asking for donations of the following items: large appliance boxes and wrapping paper. If you wish to donate any of these items you can drop them off at Ballard's office, or while you are here for conferences in November.

Library News

The Ballard Library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair the week of November 14-17 during school hours and conference hours (16th & 17th). This company has a great selection of fiction and non-fiction books in a variety of price ranges. Please stop in the Library before or after your student's conference to browse and support Ballard's Library. All proceeds will go for the purchase of new books. Remember books make great gifts. We accept cash, credit or checks. Hope to see you at the fair!
