Dr. Dan Applegate - Superintendent
Starting my second year as superintendent in Niles, I continue to feel honored that I was selected to serve Niles Community Schools. I’m grateful for the support I receive from the Board of Education and from the community. I am eager to continue working with the entire school community – our dedicated families, our passionate, qualified educators, our Board of Education, and our respected professionals and business leaders in Niles – to assure the future success of our children. Strengthening student achievement continues to be my first priority and the first priority of the entire staff at Niles Community Schools.
As superintendent, I promise to keep the best interest of our students, your children, at the forefront of my decision-making. You will find that I am passionate about keeping students safe and providing a variety of opportunities to prepare them for college and career paths. I believe it is vitally important that students learn to think critically as well as take responsibility for their own learning. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and hard-working staff committed to our students. I will support our school staff as they continue learning and building their capacity to have an impact on student achievement at the individual level.
As the leader of the district, I will uphold our district's mission to inspire and prepare all learners through diverse opportunities to challenge the present and enrich the future. Our strategic focus areas are student achievement, finance/operations/facilities, a positive learning environment, and communication. I will ensure that each area is targeted for improvement in the coming years and you will see a significant amount of our efforts put forth toward these goals.
As a community school, we believe education is essential for future success and all children can learn and achieve their personal best. We value staff, parents, and the community and recognize stakeholders are vital to the success of our learners. We know that children learn in different ways and at different paces. We maintain schools that are safe and secure.
Through my experience in Niles, I know how important education is to you. In fact, I’m sure you will agree that the success of our community depends on the success of our schools. However, it is just as important to realize that the success of our schools is equally dependent on the success of our community. For that reason, the entire community must work collectively to ensure a prosperous future. To that end, our schools must engage with local businesses and organizations, and vice versa, so that Niles continues to retain and attract families who want to raise their children here, while also keeping those valued members of the community who still have much to contribute. I would like to further strengthen the ties that our schools have with the rest of our community. In the meantime, I encourage any and all community members to reach out to the district to discuss how we can work as partners.
I look forward to seeing you in our schools and in our community!
